Rusty L. Irby, III

Partner

Rusty is a partner in Johnston Barton and Co-Chair of the Business & Tax Practice Group.  He also serves as a member of the firm's Executive Committee.
 
Rusty works primarily with closely held and family businesses on business planning and taxation, including their formation, operation, and sale.  His emphasis is federal and state income taxation. Rusty is also recognized as an expert in tax issues related to estate and succession planning, trusts, and probate.  He is a frequent lecturer for various groups on tax and estate planning.
 
Rusty graduated from the University of Alabama (B.S., 1987), the University of Alabama School of Law (M.B.A./J.D., 1991), and New York University School of Law (LL.M., Taxation 1992). He is a member of the Economic Development Association of Alabama, the Alabama France Economic Alliance, and the Birmingham Tax Forum.
 
He is also a member of the American Bar Association (Tax Section) and the Alabama State Bar (Tax Section) and the Birmingham Bar Association.
 
Rusty is listed in Best Lawyers in America and was recognized by the Birmingham Business Journal in 2005 as one of its Best of the Bar.
